I have listened for several days now to the unfolding story of scandal that is eminating from Penn State. My observations (and I invite you to share yours):
As the facts emerge, we will all feel worse about this.
- everything is still an allegation
- "if" is a big word, as in "if proven guilty"
- Joe Paterno is not the central figure in this terrible story
- Joe Paterno cannot escape this terrible story
- if Sandusky did these things of which he has been accused, he is devoid of moral compass and deserving of the worst of punishment
- the administrators who appear to have let it all meander along, they got a lot of 'splainin' to do, Lucy
- if these things happened, children have been harmed in the most reprehensible of ways unimaginable
- the print media has been much more restrained in reporting on and opining upon this story than has the electronic media
- "restrained" and "responsible" are interchangeable in this case
As the facts emerge, we will all feel worse about this.
